The 2010 Masters

Imagine the scene at the legendary Augusta National Golf Club on the final day of the Masters as you stake out your seat at the 18th hole. Suddenly a roar is heard from Amen Corner. Four-time champion Tiger Woods has eagled again and is storming the leaderboard. Feel the tingle that comes with participating in history-in-the-making as the world’s finest players battle their way across the most storied course in golf.

Highlights and Historic Sights

Walk alongside the greatest players in golf as they pursue the coveted green jacket. The Augusta National member’s green coat began in 1937. Traditionally, the champion takes his Jacket home with him for one year, returning it to the Club when he returns for the Tournament. It is the custom at the Masters Tournament that the winner from the previous year presents the Green Jacket to the new winner and helps him into it. In 1966, Jack Nicklaus became the first champion to win consecutive Tournaments. Bob Jones recommended that Nicklaus act in a dual capacity, and put on his own coat. Nicklaus proceeded to slip into his own Green Jacket, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.

Stroll the hallowed grounds of Augusta National Golf Club and drop in to watch the action in Amen Corner. The name Amen Corner refers to hole Nos. 11, 12 and 13. Amen Corner was first coined in a 1958 Sports Illustrated article by Herbert Warren Wind, who wrote that it was composed of the second half of hole No. 11, hole No. 12 and the first half of hole No. 13. Wind was searching for an appropriate name for the location where the critical action had taken place that year. He borrowed the name from an old jazz recording “Shouting at Amen Corner” by a band under the direction of Milton (Mezz) Mezzrow, a Chicago clarinetist.

Sample the continually changing all day gourmet buffet table at the VIP Hospitality room in the Clubhouse. Located directly across the street from the entrance to the Augusta National Golf Club, the Clubhouse is the most conveniently accessible hospitality venue at the Masters. The Clubhouse is a permanent, elegant facility where you can relax and enjoy the private club atmosphere.

Hawthorne Suites (Augusta)

Decorated with 18th and 19th- century antiques, this elegant hotel is a regular stopover for visiting celebrities. The richly paneled lobby lounge is a quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city; afternoon tea and cocktails are also popular. The dining room is one of the city’s finest restaurants, and many of the area’s top chefs have passed through its kitchen doors. The spacious guest rooms are exquisitely decorated with armoires, luxuriously upholstered sofas or armchairs, and marble-topped desks.
